Classical High School Humanities Teacher and/or Art Teacher | 2 Part-Time Positions

Chesterton Academy of St. Joseph, a joyful , classical high school, rooted in the Catholic faith, seeks a talented and dynamic full-time high school teacher to join our team starting in the 2024-2025 academic year. 

The Chesterton Academy of St. Joseph:  As part of the Chesterton School’s Network, the Chesterton Academy of St. Joseph will begin its third year in the Fall of 2024. Its inception is the result of local families and educators working to found a devoted high school built upon intentional community, Catholic tradition and the sacraments in Dayton, OH.

The Role and Expectations: The ideal candidate will be able and willing to teach a variety of subjects including high school. Two options (1) Humanities teacher with a knowledge of ancient to modern texts, and the IEW writing program. (2) Art teacher with knowledge for teaching drawing, calligraphy, iconography, painting, as well as, art history. A bachelor’s or master’s degree is required. Experience in classical education and curriculum is preferred. The candidate should understand and be able to teach using an integrated curriculum drawn from the great books which allows for the connection between the humanities and the arts/sciences. He/she will be familiar with teaching in the Socratic method. 

The candidate must be a practicing Catholic able to actively mentor the students in the faith, and willing to take the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium. Candidates must demonstrate excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills, and possess a track record of contributing to the vision and mission of an apostolic and educational enterprise.

In addition to their teaching responsibilities, faculty at Chesterton Academy participate in the House system, which is designed to promote character and virtue, and to help students grow in holiness. Faculty members are required to attend daily Mass with the entire student body, and assist in leading spiritual retreats and school activities.
